We are raising money to preserve, study and fully catalogue the collections of the Venerable English College. These range from architectural features to moveable collection items including paintings and sculpture, furnishings and textiles, as well as a remarkable collection of rare books and an outstanding archive.
The three main areas of focus for the collection are Conservation, Cataloguing and Digitisation.
Much of the collection is very fragile and needs specialized professional care to preserve it for future generations. We have conservation plans for each facet of the collections.
We have a new multi-lingual electronic catalogue of the VEC Heritage Archive and Library Collections. To date 2,600 of 16,000 rare books have been catalogued. We are raising funds to continue this work and to train the next generation of archivists and book historians.
VEC alumni in the Roman Association have now digitised the entire back-catalogue of the College magazine The Venerabile, from 1922 to the present day. Many other holdings would benefit from being digitised as it allows valuable information to be retrieved quickly.
